Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at info@iainandersonplasticsurgery.co.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.

You’ll have a surgeon-led consultation with Mr. Anderson. He will review your medical history, discuss your goals, examine the relevant area, explain suitable treatment options, outline risks and recovery, and answer any questions. You’ll also receive advice about next steps (tests, pre-op checks, or a proposed treatment plan).

Suitability depends on the procedure, your general health, lifestyle (smoking, weight), and realistic expectations. Some procedures (for example, breast reduction for health reasons) may be available on the NHS when criteria are met; cosmetic-only changes are usually private. A personalised assessment during a consultation will confirm your suitability.

Recovery times vary depending on the procedure: minor skin lesion removals are often same-day with quick recovery; major operations (e.g., full abdominoplasty or breast surgery) can require several weeks of limited activity and staged follow-up. Mr Anderson will give you a tailored recovery plan and return-to-work estimate.

All surgery carries risks (infection, bleeding, scarring etc). Non-surgical treatments also have potential side effects (bruising, swelling, temporary weakness). Risks are minimised by specialist surgical technique, appropriate facilities and good pre/post-op care - but they cannot be eliminated entirely. Mr Anderson will explain these in more details during your consultation.

Scarring is an inevitable part of surgery, but Mr Anderson's techniques aim to minimise and position scars so they are as inconspicuous as possible. Scar appearance improves over time; aftercare advice will be provided by Mr Anderson to optimise your healing process.

A typical lifespan is around 10–15 years, though some patients keep implants much longer without issue and modern implants have a much longer life span. You can still undergo normal screening for breast cancer with breast implants.

Smoking increases the risk of wound complications and healing problems. Mr Anderson would advise to stop smoking for a period before and after surgery to reduce these risks, but you'll be given more specific instructions during your consultation.

When delivered by a medically qualified, experienced injector in an appropriate clinical setting, anti-wrinkle injections and medical-grade fillers are generally safe. They still carry some risks (bruising, infection, rare vascular compromise with fillers), but these will be discussed during consultation.

Costs depend on the procedure, hospital choice and anaesthetic/team requirements. You’ll receive a full cost breakdown including payment plans or finance options before booking.

NHS care focuses on medically necessary reconstructive procedures and cancer-related surgery; eligibility depends on clinical criteria and local policy. Private care provides access to cosmetic surgery, shorter waiting times, choice of hospital and flexible appointment options. Mr Anderson can advise which route is appropriate.

If there is any clinical concern, tissue removed (e.g., skin lesions, lumps) will be sent for histological analysis. Mr Anderson will explain when this is done and how you will receive results.

We keep a gallery of anonymised before-and-after images and patient stories to help set realistic expectations. These are available to view during your consultation with Mr Anderson, some are also available within our procedures pages.

If you have concerns after surgery, contact Mr Anderson promptly to arrange a review. Revision or corrective options may be available depending on the issue. Clear communication and follow-ups are standard parts of consultant-led care.

Bring any relevant medical history, a list of medications, and photos or notes about your goals. Avoid smoking and follow any pre-appointment instructions Mr Anderson provides. Come prepared with questions - a consultation is the time to clarify risks, expectations and logistics, and you are always offered a second consultation prior to any procedure.

You can book by emailing info@iainandersonplasticsurgery.co.uk or through the contact page on this website.
